Granite decorated Celtic cross on stone base. Recessed panel below head of cross with carved ship and dragon. | ||
Memorial overlooks Dulas Bay, the birth-place of the brothers. The three brothers were Lewis 1701-1765, Richard 1703-1779 and William 1705-1763 the youngest brother, John, went to sea and died off the coast of Spain at the age of 34). The brothers have been described as poets, historians, antiquarians, printers, publishers, surveyors, and editors of the 1746 and 1752 Bible. Lewis was Inspector of Customs for Beaumaris and Holyhead, later moving to Cardiganshire as under-steward for Crown lands, Richard was Chief-Secretary to the Admiralty and founder of the Society of Cymmrodorion, William was a Comptroller of Customs at Holyhead. The three brothers were also prolific letter-writers. | ||
