Notes

Two four-sided painted concrete paviers edged in wood. The paviers depict the history of Gwent with images including the Severn Bridge, Chepstow Racecourse and Castle, steelworks, collieries and steam engine.

The paviers project employed artists who worked with twelve comprehensive and more than twenty primary schools, involving at least 2000 children. The final choice of designs ws selected from an open competition involving all schools in Gwent. The children's designs were used to tell the history of Gwent and they worked for over six months in the making of the paved areas. Their designs were taken to A1 Concrete of Penarth, who cast them to British Safety Standard and assembled them.

The paviers were amongst a number of sculptures commissioned for the Garden Festival of Wales in 1991/2 and some works remain on site.
