Scaled-down colliery winding frame painted black. Set on brick plinth enclosed by railings.

The explosion at Universal Colliery, Senghennydd in October 1913 was the worst mining accident in British mining history with the loss of 439 men and boys. 81 men and boys had lost their lives in an explosion at the same pit in 1901.

Inscriptions

Bronze plaque set on inclined granite slab underneath memorial. Inscription in English and Welsh states that the memorial commemorates the 439 men who died in the explosion at Universal Colliery, Senghennydd on 14 October 1913 and the 81 men who died in the earlier accident in 1901.
