Notes

Taken from CADW report: 'Octagonal canopy supported on slender cast iron columns with enriched caps, arches, spandrels, medallions containing carved birds and surmounted by small dome.' The canopy is painted mainly black with gold and green ornamentation.

The fountain was donated by the Samuel family in memory of their brother Louis Samuel. The canopy was removed shortly after the Public Works and Wages Committee of the 9th July 1943 recommended that all similar fountain canopies be donated for the war effort. It is assumed that the drinking fountain was removed some time after this. The Samuel family were also responsible for the erection of fountains in Grange Gardens and in Splott Park (no longer in situ). The fountain in Grange Gardens was refurbished in 2000.
