The relief is framed within an aedicule with a round arch and Ionic half-columns. Truth is a standing figure in long robes holding an oil lamp aloft in his left hand. Kneeling and sitting at his feet are two figures whom he appears to be instructing.

The cost of building the library was met by Passmore Edwards.
