Three polychrome ceramic panels, one on the Peckham Park Road frontage; two on the Old Kent Road frontage. That on the Peckham Park Road represents the area in Roman times; that to the left of the main entrance on the Old Kent Road frontage represents medieval times and includes a quotation from Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, referring to ‘St Thomas’ Watering-Place’, upon the site of which now stands the Victorian public house, The Thomas à Becket; the panel to the right of the entrance shows Jack Cade’s rebellion of 1450, Charles II, and a Pearly King and Queen in the twentieth century. | ||
