Inscriptions | - on front (S.) face of pedestal: TO THE MEMORY OF / THE BURBAGE MEN, / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY / 1914 - 1919. [then follows the list of the 54 dead, officers before enlisted men, in alphabetical order. Beneath this the words:] "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MEN THAN THIS, THAT / A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS". - on the left (E.) face, a list of 6 names, below which are the words: THE MEN NAMED ABOVE DIED LATER / FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE WAR / 1914 - 1918. - on the rear (N.) face: IN HONOURED MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF BURBAGE / WHO DIED WHERE DUTY CALLED / 1939 - 1945.
