Notes | ||
Summer is in the niche to the left of the chimney-piece on the lefthand wall from the ballroom entrance, opposite 'Spring'. She is a slightly maturer and altogether more active figure, barefoot and with her left heel raised as if stepping forward, her weight moving on to her right foot. Her right breast is exposed and her draperies flutter as if blown by a soft breeze. She holds a torch in her left hand. The drapery of her cloak flows across her in a loose swathe and is held in a bunch at her right in her right hand. Her hair is parted in the centre and swept back into a bun with just a few ringlets hanging at the back of her neck. The statue is secured to the rear wall of the niche by a chain attached to the small of its back. | ||
