Notes | ||
Seated female figure holding a caduceus in her right hand. By her left side is a model of a sailing ship. On her head she wears a castellated crown. The caduceus is traditionally associated with Mercury in his guise as the Roman god of Commerce. Hence, this and the sailing ship, a frequent attribute of Commerce personified, make the identification of the figure fairly certain. | ||
