Notes | ||
The tympanum of the segmental pediment over the Belvoir Street entrance is decorated with a relief of two male figures, the upper parts of their bodies nude, the lower halves draped, seated on the ground, back-to-back, either side of a shield bearing, in raised lettering, the inscription: NEWS / ROOM / A 1898 D. The lefthand figure is a bearded, elderly man, reading from a scroll. The righthand figure, a younger man, reads from a book held in his left hand, the book resting on his knee. He rests his chin on his right hand, his index finger extended over his cheek At the top of the shield between them is an oil lamp from which radiate rays of light. | ||
