Notes

Abstract sculpture whose structure, in the words of the sculptor, 'echoes the horizontal and vertical structure of the [surrounding] architecture . . . the plane elements in the sculpture, although their general configuration is rectangular, produce a very strong diagonal in the composition which contrasts with the structure of the building and helps to focus attention at the principal entrance [to the Haymarket] . . . the structure of the sculpture is analogous to the structure of the tree [under which it stands]: although it embodies in its composition the geometric structure of the architecture the total effect is more organic than architectonic . . . Other

The 'plinth' section bows out very slightly producing a crevice between it and the 'shaft' of the sculpture. This may or may not be intended (continued below]

Other

[continued from above] However, dirt and debris fill the gap between the top of the plinth and the shaft (which appears to be inserted into it).

Vandalism: nothing recorded
