Notes

Two panels, on the exterior wall between the ground and first floor levels, representing stock types of British nationalities in caricature. Each panel shows two types framed by ornate vases containing their national flowers. The lefthand panel shows, on the left, a man in traditional Welsh costume, carrying a leek and, on the right, a corpulent English John Bull figure waving a pipe; the Welsh vase contains a leek and the English vase a rose. The righthand panel shows, on the left, a kilted Scotsman with a furled umbrella and, on the right, a shillelagh-wielding Irishman. The Scottish vase contains a thistle and the Irish a shamrock.
