Notes | ||
Commissioned by Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Regional Council, the sculptor worked with the architects Page & Park to devise a lighting scheme for an area between Garnethill and St. George's Road which avoids both the cliches of mock Victoriana and the dullness of modern uniformity. There are approximately 150 pairs of birds on top of lampposts (and lights affixed to buildings) throughout the Garnethill area, each positioned individually by the sculptor. (1) Some of the lampposts have metal inscription plaques affixed to their lower half recording the details of the project. These feature a relief of a bird, an inscription and the symbols of Glasgow city Council and Strathclyde Regional Council | ||
