Draped, bronze portrait bust on a cylindrical pedestal of polished pink granite, with three arched openings for access to the drinking fountain. The remains of a metal pipe can be seen through the openings. The monument is surrounded by a circular low pink granite wall | ||
The monument was erected posthumously by public subscription, in 1907, as a drinking fountain, to commemorate Wilson's life and work | ||
Dr. James Wilson (1852-1906) was a highly esteemed and eminent medical practitioner in the Govan area. He was born in Glasgow and originally studied the Arts at Glasgow University. He switched to medicine, graduating MBCM, in 1884.He spent the whole of his working life practicing in Govan, and served on the Govan Town Council. He lived at 17 Walmer Crescent, Ibrox, and died suddenly of an apoplectic seizure at his home.(1) | ||
