Notes

Square granite obelisk on two steps, carved with thistles and roses on all four sides. The south face has a carved shield with the Glasgow coat of arms, the north face has a bronze inscription panel with an engraving of the Bishop's Palace and Glasgow Cathedral

Francis Henderson commissioned the monument as a parting gesture when his tenure as Lord Dean of Guild came to an end. The unveiling ceremony took place on 11 July 1915, and was performed by The Very Rev. Dr. McAdam Muir.(1)

The obelisk marks the site of the Bishop's Palace which was built in the 13th century and removed in 1792 to make way for the building of the original Royal Infirmary
