Two pairs of draped, standing, female figures, 'designed to symbolise the characteristics of banking, "Prudence" and "Adventure", and its activities, "Commerce" and "Security." (1)

The building was designed by A.N. Paterson of Campbell Douglas & Paterson, for the National Bank of Scotland. C.R. Bonn was his consulting engineer. The masons were Alex. Muir & Sons. Phyllis Archibald designed [and carved ?] the figures; Richard Ferris was responsible for the rest of the ornamental carving. J.W. Singer & Sons of Frome made the bronze casements and decorative iron work
