Notes

An octagonal stone drinking fountain with pyramidal cap, with three niches filled with carved stone panels referring to local history and culture, including a ship's anchor, a beehive on an ionic capital (with one volute doubling as a nautilus shell), and a lamp (or surveillance camera) with blocks of multi-storey flats in the background

The fountain was erected c. 1889 at the junction of Cathcart Road and Crown Street, and was scheduled for demolition in 1989 due to road improvements. Jim Harvey, then a student at Glasgow School of Art, persuaded the City Council to move it to its present site and to sponsor the reliefs.
