Tympanum carved with a representation of Dr Peter Lowe conducting a medical examination or lecture. Dr Lowe is shown taking a patient's pulse in front of a group of students

The building was originally designed by James Sellars and was completed, after Sellar's death in September 1888, by his assistant John Keppie. James Pittendrigh Macgillivray's bid was the lowest tendered (£120 for figure work) and was accepted on 31 July 1889. He was paid £120 on 19 May 1890. The other carved ornament, e.g. capitals, etc., were carved by McGilvray & Ferris for £73.2s11d (1)
