Notes

Marble portrait bust on pedestal backed by marble cartouche, surmounted by carved borough arms.

In 1910 a memorial committee chaired by the mayor Alderman J. T. Cooper was formed following a public meeting to consider commemorating the late king. In addition to providing a bust, it was agreed that the memorial fund should go to the Infirmary, partly to build a Nurses Home. At the unveiling of the bust it was hoped that subscriptions might reach £30,000 in order to provide sufficient beds at the Infirmary.(1)
