Marble portrait bust.

The bust was subscribed for by the friends and admirers of Alderman Nicholson. It was modelled for the Bolton Art Club exhibition of November 1893. The movement to memorialise Nicholson was started by Alderman Dobson, who sent a circular to the Mayor's friends. They had, Dobson said, had no difficulty raising the necessary funds.(1) The mayor prounounced the results "very excellent."(2)
