Portrait bust. | ||
This bust was one of two memorials in Bolton to James Fraser. The other is in Bolton Parish Church. Both pieces originated in January 1886, when several towns in the area sought to memorialise the late bishop. Alderman Fletcher, the then mayor, had consulted the Canon Powell, the Vicar of Bolton and one of Fraser's best friends, on the subject of a memorial. It was agreed that two schemes should be started, one for the Church and the other for the Town Hall. A committee was formed for the Town Hall memorial composed of "very eminent men." The sculptor, Warrington Wood, died before the bust was completed, and it was finished under the supervision of his widow.(1) | ||
