Two granite pylons on either side of the road. Each one surmounted by an urn.

The pylons/pillars were erected to the memory of William Hesketh Lever, Viscount Leverhulme (1851-1925). They commemorate his gift of Lever Park. They were erected by William Hulme, 2nd Viscount Leverhulme in 1934. William Lever was born in Bolton in 18... his fortune was made in soap... His gifts to the town included Hall i’th’Wood, the home of Samuel Crompton, which he restored. In 1918 he presented Leverhulme Park to the town.

LEVER PARK THESE PYLONS WERE ERECTED BY WILLIAM HULME 2ND VISCOUNT LEVERHULME TO COMMEMORATE THE GIFT OF LEVER PARK BY HIS FATHER 1934 Inscription on left-hand pillar reads: LEVER PARK THE GIFT OF WILLIAM HESKETH LEVER 1ST VISCOUNT LEVERHULME BORN AT 6 WOOD STREET, BOLTON SEPTEMBER 19TH, 1861 DIED AT HAMPSTEAD, LONDON MAY 7TH, 1925. FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CITIZENS OF HIS NATIVE TOWN AND NEIGHBOURHOOD BY ACT OF PARLIAMENT IN 1902 THE OWNERSHIP AND CARE OF THE PARK WERE VESTED IN THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL.
