Notes

Metal sculpture of foxgloves and other flowers rising from circular metal base on circular brick pedestal. Surrounded by steel ring set into brick work at ground level.

Sculpture commissioned by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council as part of a project which involved the creation of the new Radcliffe Freedom Gardens, the original ones having been built over in the re-development of the town centre. Money was available from the developers, MAB (UK) Ltd. to realise the project. The new gardens were situated on land which had previously been used as a car park on the Oldham Road. As a focal point for the new scheme it was decided by the council to commission Paul Margetts to provide a suitable sculpture. The result was the 'Glory of the Garden', inspired by Kipling's poem.
