Notes

stone obelisk ending in ball finial. The obelisk surmounts square plinth with oval panels.

Obelisk was raised to commemorate the victory of the Duke of Wellington and his allies at Waterloo. It stands in the grounds of Bispham Hall, about 100 metres from the hall. The grounds of the hall are now owned by the Scout Association and the open area in front of the monument is known as the Waterloo Field. The inscriptions on the base have weathered and the names of the generals who fought at Waterloo are extremely feint. Grade II monument but no sculpture. A well known (semi) public monument. Note in general introduction but probably leave out of main text.
