Unveiled by Charles Edward Fox, Mayor of Bethnal Green. The council arranged a competition for designs for the proposed municipal buildings and the President of the RIBA was asked to nominate an assessor to adjudicate upon the designs received. 97 sets of designs were received, the assessor selected design number 39 as the best meeting the conditions of the council. The joint winners were Percy Robinson and W. Alban Jones. On 5 December 1907 they were appointed as architects. An exhibition of the design was held on 7 October 1907 to allow competitors and others interested to see it. The building is now for sale! | ||
